2 Moons

2 Moons

Author: Erëmira Çitaku

Year: 2008

Genre: video-performance with flute and trumpet and live improvisation with two instruments

The art work “2 Moons” by Erëmira Çitaku is a 17 minutes video-performance, which is included as a video in the book “Shoshë”. This work takes its final form through a live improvisation with two instruments during the projection of the video. In the video, conceptualized by Çitaku, two musicians (one of whom is the author herself) play in a dark room, in front of another video-projection. This performance is characterized by the author’s way of communicating (through musical instruments and poetry) with a video art. The video contains edited video recordings, which, among others, show two moons in the sky. Here, we deal with the moon as a symbol of life cycles, which at the same time symbolizes the eternity. Çitaku sees this as a game between the planets (based on the changeable distances between the Earth and planet Mars). On the other hand, these two moons also represent an author’s dream which inspired her for this art work. The motive of the moon deals with the female cycles, respectively the reproduction and the creation of life on Earth. The video is followed by music and poetry which all connect nicely with this art work’s substance. The poetry is interpreted in several languages: Albanian, English, Italian, Bulgarian, Flemish and French, while the two musicians in front of the video-projection interact with it through melodies, sounds, or noises. At the end, this multi-level and multi-dimensional video-performance leaves still some space for another live improvisation by two other musicians, during its screening. This art work is a combination of different art genres which may define the author as a pioneer of this kind of art in Kosovo.
